Biography: Cordelia Anderson

Cordelia Anderson D.M.A.

Dr. Cordelia Anderson has been appointed as the Chair of the Department of Music at Fisk University. In her new role, Dr. Anderson will provide leadership and administrative oversight to the music department.

Dr. Anderson, originally from Birmingham, Alabama, previously served as Associate Professor in Vocal Studies at Alabama State University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. Her teaching portfolio included applied voice, diction, vocal pedagogy, and she chaired the vocal/choral and applied studies area. Dr. Anderson
holds a B.A. in vocal performance from Alabama State University, an M.M. in vocal performance from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and a D.M.A. in vocal performance from The University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Renowned for her lectures and performances in operatic and African-American music, Dr. Anderson has had notable engagements, such as performing for the unveiling of the U.S. stamp honoring opera singer Marian Anderson. She is a three-time winner of the National Association
of Teachers of Singers Vocal Competition for the Alabama chapter and Cal-Western Region, and has toured internationally, including performances in China, Europe, Spain, and Croatia. Dr. Anderson's career highlights include being a Young Artist for Opera Las Vegas and performing in major productions at the University of Nevada Las Vegas Opera Theater program. She has also presented at the African-American Art Song Alliance Conference and conducted master classes in Denia, Spain. Her repertoire spans a range of roles in operas such as "Madama
Butterfly," "Suor Angelica," and "Le Nozze di Figaro," as well as concert performances as a soloist in works like Handel's "Messiah" and Mendelssohn's "Elijah." Help us congratulate and welcome Dr. Anderson to Fisk University.
