Arts and Languages Academic Department
Arts and Languages
Analysis and evaluation. Creativity. Interpretation. Teachers, reporters, lawyers, editors, doctors, and artists are just some of the careers for which English majors are well-prepared. There are a number of software businesses and other startup projects in Technology Companies and abroad that actively recruit English majors. Stanford grads can be found all over the world, putting their degrees to good use as everything from copywriters and social workers to entrepreneurs and filmmakers.
Poet Nikki Giovanni and literary great Robert Hayden are among those literary greats who have excelled in telling the stories and the experiences of African Americans and shared those skills with Fisk students. The Modern Foreign Language discipline offers Spanish, French, and other languages made available by our exceptional Fulbright Scholars. The Department of Arts and Language also seeks to provide opportunities to study abroad to expand our student’s global and cultural experiences.

I selected Fisk because I have always had a passion for HBCU history and the culture. The majority of my family have attended HBCUs, so I grew up looking forward to attending one and having a place to connect with my Black brothers and sisters from all over the world. As soon as I visited Fisk, I knew it was where I wanted to be. I love the energy, location, and especially the unique history. The campus is beautiful and I love the close-knit family bond we all share. Upon finishing my International Business degree at Fisk, I plan on getting my MBA. My goal is to find a position at a company that will allow me to travel internationally. Ultimately, I would love to own my own business.
