160 Years Forward

For 160 years, Fisk University has produced leaders who have changed the world. Now we’re building the infrastructure that changes it directly.

The story

In 1866, a group of formerly enslaved men and women gathered in former Union Army barracks in Nashville, Tennessee, with one intention: to learn. That was the founding of Fisk University — and the founding of Nashville's first institution of higher education.

Not a building. Not an endowment. A declaration — that these minds were not only worthy of education but capable of transforming the world through it.

W.E.B. Du Bois. Ida B. Wells. Diane Nash. John Lewis. They did not simply attend this institution. They became the evidence that its founding premise was correct.

One hundred and sixty years later, Fisk is making another declaration.

"We are building the infrastructure of the future — here. On this campus. For this community. For the next 160 years."

Dr. Agenia W. Clark,
President, Fisk University

You won't just study the future here. You'll build it.

The academic space inside the Innovation & Technology Center gives Fisk students direct access to digital infrastructure that most universities cannot offer. New curriculum, research opportunities, and career pathways will be developed around this facility from day one.
At Fisk, digital literacy is not a course you take. It is something you live.

Rooted here.
Built for what’s next.

The Innovation and Technology Center is located in zip code 37208  because of the community around it.

The facility includes workforce training pathways for residents and a community resource center designed to bridge the digital divide. It is built around the principle of Do No Harm.

Nashville’s oldest university is committed to ensuring that as this city grows, the communities closest to this campus grow with it.
